We love having new help come in to play with us! We had some volunteers come to read with us. Then we had Chinese lessons. We learned how to say "Go Tigers!" Another volunteer helps us count and make a pumpkin book:
In library, we made monster rocks. These are absolutely adorable and I had to make on myself.
We had lots of fun playing with hula hoops and balls for recess.
Then we were able to play with Dr. Minear's class! We do so enjoy reading and playing with them. There are so many new things to play with:
Then we were able to go outside and play. This is what we found when we crushed acorns. We left it as a snack for the squirrels since it is getting colder now.
Center time:
Does this not look like the sorting hat from Harry Potter or what?
Country Mouse Town Mouse play!
Annnnnd back to centers:
The kids explored colored tiles with magnifying glasses and holding them up to the light. You'd never guess what we discovered when we held up the red and blue one together - PURPLE! :)
Halloween!
In ROD on Halloween we had a very spooky time! We turned off the lights and did a science experiment making Witches Brew! We made the brew turn different colors from dark to clear and made it fiz and bubble. The students then got to color, yes color, on pumpkin cookies and eat them! We had edible markers that they used on the cookies. To close the lesson, Ms. Annie read a story about a tiny witch and her orange paper house. After cutting up the witch’s house to fit her needs the students were surprised that when the house was opened up it made the face of a Jack-O-Lantern!
Library time:
We made scary masks. Boo!
Enjoying our activity books from JuJu before our party:
Our monster cake from Mrs. Staci!
We have lots of wonderful helpers. Ms. LaPortia reads to us every day and helps us pick out words we know.
The activity cards we were playing with in teaching station are now in math centers.
In the teaching station, we played a puzzle with numbers, objects, and number words. This is an amazing activity that combined the skills of counting, letter recognition, number recognition, and letter sounds. If we knew this number was ten, how could we figure out how to spell it? They did great with this and it's something we will be doing for a few more days. Then it will go in the math center for them to play with at any time.
Library:
We were able to pick out and read our own books. Some of us even read to the class:
Fun times in the indoor play area:
JuJu is a taxi! She is honking her horn.
Each week, we have a letter of the week and a number of the week. The letters are usually vowels to give them opportunities to practice the sound. Whenever we see an I or 2 outside of the classroom I make note of it to add to our tally chart. When they see an I they have to make the sound for the letter. It's working out wonderfully. It is also teaching tally marks and counting by fives.
Another post will be following shortly about this week. These were all pictures from last week. It was all in all a very busy but fun week!
